Vector Remote: Health Service Design

Vector Remote is a healthcare technology company that serves electrophysiologists and their patients. They ingest information from heart implant devices and translate 30-page PDFs into a few sentences. This technology helps with speed and accuracy in treating patients.

I was tasked with how to present this information, along with additional patient history, so the clinics could take action.

Problem
Vector Remote has an existing full-service platform. After deciding to convert to SaaS, they realized that clinics needed different workflows.

Research + Analysis
To understand this complicated topics and the existing product, I did extensive research, including:

  • User interviews

  • Platform assessment

  • Stakeholder conversations

  • Third-party research

Since Vector had many moving parts and a growing product offering, research was ongoing and new questions were always popping up. Clear client communication was vital to address these evolving needs.

Design
I am proud of the micro-UX decisions that helped the user work more efficiently. Our thorough research and open communication went far in design. Below is an example of how that happened:

  1. Interview Quote: “While I'm looking at this document, I try to remember what changes I need to make to the summary. I often go back and forth between tabs to write it down.”

  2. Problem: Not only is it laborious to switch between tabs, but increases the chance of error.

  3. Design Solution: We included a FAB while the user was reviewing documentation so they could add changes in the same screen as the document, without having to toggle back and forth.

Solutions, such as the FAB, live across Vector. The reports, transmission summaries, patient charts, and more were all built from tangible user feedback, not guesswork.

Outcome/Impact
I was thrilled to learn that my designs contributed to increased productivity at clinics. With technicians triaging faster and more accurately, patients received quicker care.

Second to the patient outcomes, a major compliment is that Vector came back to work with us, specifically requesting to work with me again. They even expressed that my collaboration and connection to the product was so impactful that they could not imagine designing with a different team.
